What is EPR? Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a policy approach that places responsibility on producers, manufacturers, importers, and sellers of products to manage the environmental impacts of their products throughout their lifecycle, including after the products are discarded. Businesses that produce, import, or sell products that generate trash must first register as EPRs. The E-Waste (Management) Rules of 2016 and the Plastic Waste Management Rules of 2016 both stipulate that it is legally required. Penalties and legal action may ensue from failure to register.
